Watson
Lake Airport spreads across a piece of land jutting out from the north
shore of Watson Lake, top right. A memorial cairn stands closer to
the lake. It's dedicated to "the ground crews and pilots who
flew the Northwest Staging Route...between 1941 and 1957." The
three men cited, right, died in crashes at Watson Lake. The propeller
is from the Avro Lincoln Bomber which crashed into the lake, taking
the life of Ernest McWilliams (see right). All three who died in crashes
were Canadians. The airport is 8 miles out Robert Campbell Hwy from
the AlCan at the Sign Post Forest. |
