The old photograph, top left, documents the treacherous passage through the Miles Canyon rapids. The turbulence was tamed by raising the water's height with the construction of Yukon Energy's hydroelectric dam in 1959. Now recreational activities are more relaxed. I'm sure some white water river runners would love to have the challenge to negotiate those rapids.
